The Incredible Fathers' Podcast #5

Reverse engineering fatherhood one story at a time.

Building on episode #4 we finish the last story we started (a rainy day teenager car crash turned happy) and then we launch into one of the epic father figures of England’s history who preserved the people from being conquered. We wrap up with a story about an American military jet fighter pilot who treated his subordinates like a father and endeared them to him. This pilot rose to the highest ranks with his virtuous hallmarks of humility, competence, and courage.

-Winston Churchill giving one of his stirring speeches to the people in 1945

When other leaders crumpled around him under the extreme war time pressure of the Nazi Regime, King George VI looked to him to lead the country during a time of crisis.

-Winston Churchill at conference in Iran with FDR and Stalin during WWII.

Winston used common sense and knew how to get things done. He was a wise judge of character too. He could see Hitler for who he really was and used his powers of persuasion to invite FDR to be a full ally to preserve Europe from the powers of the Axis Powers.

-Sir Winston Churchill

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that if the British Empire and its commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, “This was their finest hour”

-Winston Churchill

Considered a “has been” in the House of Commons at the start of WWII, Winston had many critics and was often disliked before and after the War. After the war was over he lost the election. However, he was the man of the hour who saved his nation and is now generally considered one of the greatest leaders and politicians of all time. He was a father figure to his people giving them the commandments they needed to preserve them through England’s “darkest hour.” Being a good father to your children is doing what is best for them even if they don’t like it at times. Praise to those fathers who do what is right to keep the family healthy and alive and don’t easily bend to the will of some of the ignorant children.

-Winston Churchill reviewing Polish troops in England in 1942

Winston had an appearance, mannerisms, and habits that made it easy for people to criticism him but he had a force of righteous character to face the jaws of hell unflinchingly. Exactly what his people needed in a war time savior.
